With the competitive job market and beauty of this unique coastal community, it is not surprising that the median home price in Santa Cruz has reached $854,200, while the national average is just about a quarter of that, at $217,500. In addition to four highly rated elementary schools, two middle schools, and three high schools, post-secondary education is another draw for the community. Cabrillo College was founded in 1959 and serves more than 17,000 students seeking degrees in Construction and Energy Management, Engineering, and Dental Hygiene. Additionally, the University of California Santa Cruz enrolls over 19,000 students, with sixty-six undergraduate major options and 64 graduate programs. In addition to the opportunities for students, UC Santa Cruz also employs more than 4,700 faculty and staff, opening many employment opportunities in the area.
