Tourist Attractions

The warm beaches are just the beginning, with the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk being another beloved favorite. The Boardwalk includes a carnival-style atmosphere with a large Ferris wheel to take in the views, extended swings, rollercoasters, a carousel, and fun fair food. If you’re passing through, you can buy tickets or a day pass, but locals can purchase an annual pass for a discounted price.  

If you venture out into higher elevation, you can find the redwood forests in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Monterey Bay, a protected marine sanctuary. Beaches are plentiful with Main Beach, Cowell Beach and Mitchell’s Cove attracting surfers, swimmers, and divers from all over the world. State Parks include Natural Bridges State Beach, Wilder Ranch State Park, and Lighthouse Field State Beach. Additionally, the Santa Cruz Wharf is known for its fishing, boat tours, viewing sea lions, nightlife, and gift shops. 

Educational Opportunities

Santa Cruz attracts many families and students for the wide array of educational opportunities. In addition to four highly rated elementary schools, two middle schools, and three high schools, post-secondary education is another draw for the community. Cabrillo College was founded in 1959 and serves more than 17,000 students seeking degrees in Construction and Energy Management, Engineering, and Dental Hygiene. Additionally, the University of California Santa Cruz enrolls over 19,000 students, with sixty-six undergraduate major options and 64 graduate programs. In addition to the opportunities for students, UC Santa Cruz also employs more than 4,700 faculty and staff, opening many employment opportunities in the area.
